Isaiah 61

1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, 2 to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, 3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor. 4 They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations.

5 Aliens will shepherd your flocks; foreigners will work your fields and vineyards. 6 And you will be called priests of the LORD, you will be named ministers of our God. You will feed on the wealth of nations, and in their riches you will boast.
7 Instead of their shame my people will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace they will rejoice in their inheritance; and so they will inherit a double portion in their land, and everlasting joy will be theirs.

8 "For I, the LORD, love justice; I hate robbery and iniquity.
In my faithfulness I will reward them and make an everlasting covenant with them. 9 Their descendants will be known among the nations and their offspring among the peoples. All who see them will acknowledge that they are a people the LORD has blessed."

10 I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God.
For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

11 For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign LORD will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations.

DAY 1 Team Egypt

Sorry it has taken a few days to get this thing updated. We were without an internet connection for a few days but we're BACK online now...(obviously) :-)

Well, We have successfully completed 3 FULL days of this whirlwind trip! YAHOO! Everyone is doing well..they are REALLY amazing! All are happy, healthy and MOST importantly HYDRATED!!!!

I will post about each day here. PLEASE feel free to click on any slide show on the side to see more pics of each day through our Picasa web albums.

DAY 1 was good and FULL! We gathered in the apartment at 10am for some prayer, and worship plus a brief orientation with Heather about general culture things. After that we had one of Heather's friends "H" come with her son to share about her life, religion, views and her take on culture things. We really enjoyed her and learned a lot. After that "H" gave us all a mini course in survival Arabic which was fun and we are working hard to use and practice whenever we can.

Once those meeting were over we were off to see the city. We took a van from the norht side of town where we are staying to the south side so we could take a very special sailboat ride on a "Falooka" (that's what they call the sailboats) After that we were all invited to the US Embassy's annual 4th of July celebration so we spent our first full evening hanging out eating hamburgers and domino's pizza! :-) It was a good time to relax and clear our heads after all this travel, time and culture change. We also had some good opportunities to meet others that are reaching out and helping people in this area as well. There were games for the kids and adults, prizes, swimming and all the food you could eat. (the teens weren't too excited about the rotisserie chicken flavored potato chips though)

After the party we all came home and went to bed! It was a good first day but our brains and bodies were (understandably) tired.

(check out the slide show on the side if you want to see more if this day.
Love you all!!!!

in His grip,
Heather
Gotta sleep! more about day 2 and 3 TOMORROW! :-)
